I'm wondering if you guys say Soda, Pop, or Coke
we well at least i say soda but that's just my opinion
Pretty much all of us say Coke
I was wondering Morgyn, why do you guys call soda " Coke."
yeah I call it soda
i think a lot of people in the south say coke when theyre talking about any soft drink is because the world of coca-cola is in atlanta and most of us just drink coke alot
down here we say soda
Most southerners would say coke only because coke is a main company with different types of drinks.
I say all
We say pop
who are you speaking for when you say "we"? I don't say that and I don't know who does down here? jus saiyan
YOU might say pop. but pretty much none of the rest of us do.
we mostly just say coke, I thought saying pop was like a northern thing but nobody down here really says pop.
I say soda or coke. Saying "pop" would feel weird to me.
I say Soda
this doesn't work
mostly we just say coke
On the survey a lot of people in the south said that we, the northerners, are really loud, and pushy. I was wondering after the teleconference do you still think that we are loud, and pushy?
Y̶e̶a̶h̶,̶ ̶w̶e̶ ̶d̶o̶. No, not anymore.
No not at all
I was wondering if you thought we were respectful or rude during the teleconference?
i thought yall were respectful but there was talking on both ends so it was equal
Thanks for replying I also think were equally respectful
Do you like potatoes and what kind?
How can someone not like potatoes!!??(not trying to be rude) I mean I don't know anyone who doesn't like potatoes except for my little brother and sister and they don't like anyfoods so...
Yes we eat potatoes a lot. I'm wondering what are some common dishes you guys use them for. A very common way we prepare them (Correct me on this if you do it too) is to mash them, mix them with milk (Usually buttermilk) and add some butter then dash some salt over it. Mashed potatoes are always spiced up differently. Some like to add rosemary and all kinds of spices like garlic and other stuff. YUM!!!
For Thanksgiving, my uncle makes upgraded mashed potatoes. They have sour cream, lots of butter, cheese, milk, and salt. They are the best thing in the whole world!
I HATE POTATOES
*Passes out* I will eat them raw or cooked they are AMAZING!
i am thankful for potatoes and all the ways they can be cooked
What would be the best place to visit in Alabama?
I vote auburn of course, but since its not a big city there isn't a whole lot to do. We are only about 2 hours from Atlanta, Birmingham and Montgomery. There are a lot of things to do in those cities like zoos, skating, and lots of shops and good foods
Orange beach in the summer and Auburn in the fall
Horseshoe Bend, good hiking trail and historical battlefield. Lot's of good hiking trails, U.S Space and rocket center in Huntsville, McWane Science Center, Alabma Museum of Natural History. Just to name a few places.
we think the best places to visits is the skate center , mall , movies
Anywhere on the coast. The gulf is arguably the prettiest place in the state.
Go to gulf shores!! It's the most beautiful beach EVER!!! Any beaches on the gulf of mexico are beautiful but gulf shores is AMAZING!! Unless you want seashells then go to Florida
if you were visiting during football season you should visit auburn because going to the football game is so fun. you get to go tailgate, go downtown, get toomer's lemonade and roll the trees after we win
I was wondering why you guys can't wear leggings at your school can you explain that to me please?
i'm not sure why were not allowed to its just the dress code rule here. maybe they're just too tight for standards here
Our school has a bunch of crazy dress code rules. All I know.
Just out of nowhere I have a question...
Are you all from Alabama?
If not where are you from?
Tennessee, the volunteer state. Best state 10/10.
I visited Tennessee for a week last summer and I fell in love!! Were supposed to move down there when I graduate High School
I was born in Tennessee, and then moved here, but a lot of us are from Alabama or from other places. It just depends on the person I guess.
I was born in Virginia, then when I was 5, i lived in Paris for 6 months, then moved to back to auburn.
Yeah Im from Arizona but moved to Michigan
Not all of us is from Alabama, some of us were born in Alabama but Leilei and Taliyah is from Alabama.
No not all of us. I was actually born in Chicago but we moved down here just to have something a bit different :)
I'm from Georgia, and i moved here at the end of 6th grade
I'm from South Korea but I moved to Alabama when I was 6. I've been here for 7 years!
I'm actually from the Metro Atlanta area. When I was ten we moved to Norman Oklahoma (GO SOONERS!!!) and just moved here in October.
North Dakota (2 years) --> Indiana (4 years) --> Ohio (3 years) --> Alabama (3 years). I'm pretty much a Northern person. I still say Pop.
Apopka, Florida 👌
Im from Montana its super cold there
I am now wondering what words us Northerners use that you think are weird or different.
I'm wondering if you could use that in a sentence.
What Stereotypes where true?
The Auburn students are essentially us, just in a different location.
I can't agree more.
I was wondering if you guys ever had a snow day? If you did then what was the temperature and how much snow did you get?
last year we had 2 days off. It was 20 degrees outside and we got 2 inches
THAT'S ALL?! We got at least 3 feet in 2 days last year and 1 1/2 feet in 3 days this year we had lots of snow days last year.
I didn't grow up here, but I lived in south Atlanta for a while which isn't too different from Auburn and we MAY get an inch when it's cold. But other than that, not really
Atlanta is a pretty cool city! Have you been to the Atlanta aquarium? I love animals especially the sea horses.
A lot of people go to Atlanta. That's where all the good shopping stores are. Also in 6th grade a lot of us went to the Georgia aquarium and the coke museum for a field trip. Do y'all go on any cool field trips?
When we have a snow day there is lots of snow but, most of the time we get a snow day because of the bitter cold.
I am wondering if you guys even like us.
Personally, I thought yall were fine but I cant speak for everybody so...
i was wondering if you guys say yolo
Yes lots of people say yolo in michigan
Yes a lot of 8th graders say Yolo, we also Swag too
We were wondering what the lowest temperature you guys have had this winter?
Some people say yolo but most people don't. At least I haven't heard it in a while but I have heard about swag and sup
Yeah in 2011
I was wondering if some of the stereotypes that you thought about us became untrue after hearing what we had to say. If so, which ones?
The fact that yall live in houses not apartments and that yall have backyards surprised me but that stereotype is definitely broken.
Hahaha yeah I mean some people live in apartments but most of us live in houses and have nice land.
Just because that the Auburn kids are in the south, it doesn't mean that they are rednecks.
In Auburn there is mix culture and not just rednecks
THANKYOU that is SO True!!!!!!!!!
How much soccer do you guys play down there?
There are lots of soccer teams, Drake has one, The Junior High, has 2 I think and so does the high school. There is a travel team called Auburn Thunder. Auburn University has a team to, butmost people focus on football.
Is there a Kingdom soccer team?
I was wondering... what is the most popular slang or saying y'all use?
Hello Rebecca. Usually our slangs are like," Bae", " Swag." It's just what people have past on through out the school year.
Lilly: We use, well I use swag just to be funny haha.
Kristen: I use bro, alot.
How to find slang they use:
1) Get a sheet of paper and title it: "Southern Slang"
2) Think of some of the slang we use
3) Write it down
4) At the top of the page, erase, "Southern" and write "Northern."
You have now discovered Northern slang.
This makes me happy.
What is the lowest temp yall have been swimming?
I'd say that I've been swimming at around 50 degrees.
The lowest temperature i've swam in was 60-65. That's my opinion, I can't speak for everyone.
Ummm.. Lowest I've been swimming outdoors was like 60 degrees or more
The lowest temperature I have been swimming would be 8 degrees F
When I swam inside it was -15 outside but when I swam outside the coolest was 50
I have gone swimming in about 20 degrees.
I have never heard someone say pop, I say coke and rarely say soda.
I was wondering how and why yalls classes are so short? Because our classes are quite long and we talked to two classes yesterday before we had to leave for our next class how does that all work out?
Our classes are so short so that we can fit in more classes. 7 classes allow kids to have more options to choose from, five before lunch, two after.
Well we have about 50 minutes for each class. umm we start school at 7:35 and don't get out until 2:40 so it all just fits in with the time for the classes we have if that makes seance.
We have 7 classes total. Our first "hour" is a core class like math or science. Then, we have two 45 minute specials classes like Gym, Band, Choir, or Technology class. Then the other four classes are about 50 minutes and they could be Science, History, Spanish, or English. Only here we call english Language Arts.
well you guys have five classes and we have seven, so we go to our first hour then we go to our two encores which are like band, choir, art, gym, theater, etc. Then we go to two more core classes then to lunch then to two more core classes.
Are classes are so short because we have 7 classes not 5 we have Science, Math, History, Explore or Spanish, and Language Arts. But we also have two encore classes. We can choose from Band!!!!, Choir, Gym, Tech Literacy, Communications for life, Forensics, Art, Life Management, and Drama.
Landon are classes are 45/50 minutes long, I never thought that was short if anything I thought that was long. How long is your class?
our classes are 96 minutes
How long are your classes and how many do you have because we have 7
They are an hour and a half but we only have 4 classes and we switch every other day for P.E. and electives.
Each of our classes are around 40-50 minuets. And we only have seven hours a day. With that I was wondering how many classes do you have.
Are classes may be short but they seem like years ugh
I was wondering if you guys like to mimic our accents, if you believe that we have one?
I was wondering if you guys have a Science Olympiad team?
Does your fishing team or club have to compete against other schools
If so do you see who can catch the biggest fish or see who can catch the most fish in a short amount of time.
After teleconferencing with us did you guys think were totally different from you or mostly the same??
I'm wondering if southerners listen to rap/hip-hop?
Many of us listen to hip-hop , but country and pop are fairly prevalent, too. A lot of our "trends" are started by and based on rap songs and lingo.
several people listen to rap and hip hop its actually played a lot at the football games
yeah a lot of people do
Ok sometimes people up north mimic southern accents but not in a rude way. So I was just wondering if you guys ever try to use a more northern accent?
Do you guys make fun of us for our accents?
I don't really hear an accent
Y'all don't really have accents...
do you guys have a good soccer team?
our high school boys team and our women's soccer team are very good
Do any of you guys play hockey??
I don't know of anyone that plays hockey but I go to the Columbus cotton mouths hockey games.
I was wondering if any of you do 4-H?
Yes Seth B. we do have a 4-H. And its pretty fun and cool you explore the world more and the outside world.
What food do you guys usually eat down south?
BBQ and stuff like that
I forgot to ask this during the teleconference but do you guys eat any foods that might seem a little strange to the people in the north?
chickfila is a fast food place and we all love it and auburn's toomers corner is known for its lemonade
I was wondering... Do you guys compete against different schools with the fishing thing, like see who can catch the most or the biggest fish.
My friend switched from a Russian accent to a deep southern accent. I wonder.... Is it hard to change from one accent to another accent? For those people who had that experience before. Do you think that almost or all students at your school have accents or not? Just curious.
i've known people who's accent changed and it really just comes naturally if theyre not around people with the same accent
What are some food choices you guys have for lunch?
What is it like having 2 hour classes?
It gets really stressful but you can get more things done.
Has anyone ever visited any other state and noticed anything weird about our "accents"
What did you think?
I was wondering if y'all liked our accents?
I think your guys accents were really cool.I was born in the south but I never picked up the accent
I really didn't notice any accents, I heard a few kids say y'all, but I never heard an accent.
I do! I think they are really cool.
I liked your guys accents because I have always wanted an accent.
I researched stuff about blue moon in the south. I don't believe that you have blue moon ice cream. Now I'm wondering do you?
I am still wondering if you guys have cowboys or is it a stereotype
I think that's a stereotype... There probably are some, but you'll barely see anyone riding a horse and going 'yee-haw' ahahahahah
cowboys are more of a southwestern thing
I never got to ask my question, so I was wondering…. What's a Yankee?
I was wondering where is the best place to go to in Auburn?
Toomer's Corner! Their lemonade is the besttt
Ya hannah we do I wish we had accents but ya'll have cooler accents then us, if we even have accents at all to you guys. Do we have accents from your point of view?
What did you guys think was going to be way diffrent about us?
I was wondering what a patagonia is?
I heard one of you mention the name Patagonia and was wondering what it was?
I am also wondering what patagonia
Patagonia is a very popular brand here in the South that sell jackets, t-shirts, and backpacks. Many girls here have the Patagonia jackets.
It's a famous clothing brand. It's mostly famous for their fur jackets but they sell shirts too. They're really comfortable!
they are these popular jackets and vests that are really warm
I was wondering why you guys have a junior high and a middle school because in Michigan we have middle and high school
When I was in Georgia, we had the same thing, too. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade was all in one middle school, and 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade were all in one high school. My guess is that there's a lot more people in our area than your area, which is why we need more schools.
I was wondering what yalls favorite school is Alabama or Auburn. Which one do you prefer?
I am still wondering how you have 2000 kids in your high school.
I was surprised on how we are not that different
I was wondering what does yankee mean to you guys.
Yankee means the baseball team to me
I've caught a Shovel-Nose Shark in Sarisoda, Florida before!😺
Welcome to mattawan middle school may I take your order
yankees means a baseball team to me
I was wondering how strong do you guys think our accent is?
what kind of bands do y'all listen to?
Do yall whip?
my favorite potatoes are chips, ones that fly around my room, and french fries AJHS
What kind of classes do you guys take?
Do you guys say "bruh'
sam we do not play hockey there is no ice to play it on
I was wondering if y'all liked our accent??
I know that chick-full-A isn't very prominent in the north so I'm wondering, were is the nearest one from your area? If you have eaten at chick-full-a, did you like it?
i was wondering if ya'll think if you could live down here or did live down here.
I wasn't here yesterday so forgive me if this has already been asked... but why do you say "these ones" (My dad knows people from Michigan and they say it)
What was the boy in the front drinking? It was probably in the last hour for you guys.
Was he wearing a blue shirt?
What is the whip?
The whip is a dance that people do now a days it on YouTube if your wondering
It's a dance.
I was just wondering if you guys still think that we are pushy and rude? I think that over the teleconference we were really respectful and funny. So hopefully we didn't come off pushy and rude!
I was also wondering that. Because you guys were so quiet, and maybe it was because we were so loud!
I was wondering... what is monogramming and why do all of you guys do it?
Jack L, a monogram is your initials in cursive usually. A lot of girls have them here. Girls have them on their cars, clothes, swim suits, phone cases, bags, shoes, scarves, cups, wall décor, and basically anything
because its super cute! and you can put it on almost anything!
Monogramming is when you get your initials on something. People get it on like the back of their cars and phone cases. People also get it on their pillow cases, shirts, shorts, boots, shoes, socks, scarves, bags, purses, wallets, blankets, Patagonia jackets, and vests.
I know all of you live in Alabama right now,
But have all of you lived there your whole life?
And if not, where are you from?
Some people were born in Auburn, but for my brothers (Paul and Conrad) and me we were born in Jacksonville, Florida and we lived in St. Simon's Island, Georgia for awhile. We we turned one we moved to Auburn.
I grew up in south Atlanta until I was ten. We then moved to Norman, Oklahoma and lived there for about four years. We just moved here in October.
Do you guys think differently about us now?
Do you guys play Lacrosse?
I was wondering if any of you guys have gone to a Michigan or a Michigan St. football game.
I never had a chance to ask how your guys sports are down there, so I was just wondering what your favs and the most common ones?
My favorites are football and volleyball. But most popular would have to be football.
Football is probably the most popular sport. A lot of people tailgate. At our school we have a lot of sports though, like baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and football.
I'm wondering if console gaming or PC gaming is more popular up there. What does the majority of people up there play on? PC or console?
I'm wondering if any of the Northerners at MMS say y'all.
I was wondering what kind of slang y'all use
I am wondering what yall think of the cold weather and the snow? Would you exchange it for warm weather?
What is the most common food and drink up there?
My friend told me that yall say fidda or something like that. I was wondering what that means.
I was still wondering if any of you guys have been to the south before
Do y'all have any dances that y'all do ? Like the nae nae, whip, yeet... ect.
do yall like snow???
(Rate from 1 to 10)
I am now wondering what some of the most popular slang terms used in the north.
do yall also like potatos/tomatos?????
guys... monograming is when you get ur initials on like clothes and shoes and purses and anything. like I have monograming on my tote for overnight stuff and I have monograming on some of my shirts and dresses and one of my purses and just some of that stuff. I have it on my bed comforter. yes I know that it might be crazy but I do. like you would put your initals like haw but put ur last name initial in the middle and really big and then you put it in a really pretty writing. and usually it is stitched or sewed into something
I have a monogram sticker for my phone too.
Do y'all have P.E. everyday?
Do yall LOVVVEEE FOOOOTBBALLLL?!?!?!?!?!?!
ok guys, lets get down to business, a Patagonia is a type of jacket that everyone wears. like... it is a jacket and it somewhat keeps you warm and then people wear it cause they just wanna. I like the but I think they need more color. cause I wear colors that look good on me and I cant find one. go look it up on google. its right there but go on images. like for real, you might actually like them. I know I do
what is your favorite saying(s)???
Do y'all have boiled peanuts?
Here's two links to see what Patagonia's and monograms are...
I'm wondering how hot it gets in the summer.
It doesn't get that hot... probably around 80 and MAYBE 90. But it is SO humid down here you sweat once you walk outside. BLAH
I am wondering why y'all think its funny when we say y'all.
I am wondering what Northerners think about us saying y'all
*Be respectful.*Be clear.*Check your spelling.
